Homestyle Store of the Month: West Elm

West Elm is a baby of the William and Sonoma Family. It was created in 2002 and opened up their first store in Brooklyn, in 2003. In 2008, we were lucky enough to welcome the first West Elm store in Canada, here in Toronto at Liberty Village.Since then, West Elm has been responsible for styling and decorating numerous homes and apartments throughout the city.

What I really like about West Elm is that they are constantly releasing new collections and new lines of products. If you go to the store, let’s say 3-4 times a year, you are certain to have the feeling of going to a new store each time. Always edgy and “cool”, West Elm carries lines and products to suit his and her taste, from industrial to organic, from fancy to simple.

Their website is very user-friendly, up-to-date and has amazing images for each product, which I believe is the best online sales tool. You want to see what you’re about to buy in different angles and vignettes just to be sure.

Their numerous staff members are sure to give you a hand and give good advice.

Finally, West Elm is a place to go even when you’re not looking for something in particular because they have everything and everything looks good. On top of it all, West Elm makes a conscious effort in being a Green company and promoting sustainable yet high-quality products.

Last but not least, once you’re in their email database, you receive invites to events, launches and workshops.

With an endless inventory, CommonMen went for a stroll at West Elm and after a painful selection of so many great items, these are Theo’s Top 5 picks:

1. Victor Chair

Handsome occasional chair with a smooth plaid fabric and 4 mismatched buttons.

2. Perforated Globe Pendant

Inspired by Moroccan style chandeliers, this amazing pendant cast a soft textured glow that will make quite a design statement in an entrance hall or bedroom.

3. Ceramic Owl Speaker

Part of their new collection of speakers in the shape of animals, this ambient speaker has a dual purpose. 1- Friends are coming over? you plug your Ipod/Iphone and the party has just started. 2- It also serves as an eclectic decor item on a console table or bookshelf.

4. Marble shelf with branches bracket

Marble is always a nice choice! You can use this to display photos, your valuable possessions or books and decor items. Also, you can choose a lacquer, stainless steel or glass shelf and other styles of brackets too. This is part of their mix and match program that also applies to Dining Tables.

5.  Martini Side Tables

Need a pop? Need colour? Need curves to soften a rectangle on rectangle furniture layout? Look no further. These side tables come in a plethora of colours including a bold Gold one for those who dare. Now, seriously, even if you don’t need anything for your pad that you can think of, but happen to be in the Liberty Village hood, stop by. You will love it.
